The latest issue of Fieldsports Journal is guest-edited by Welsh former rugby union player Sir Gareth Edwards CBE who was once dubbed ‘the greatest player of all time’. In his nine-page no-holds-barred interview, the superstar scrum-half reveals his other great passion in life - fieldsports. His obsession with fishing and shooting has taken him all over the world as he combined rugby tours and speaking engagements with the opportunity to experience country pursuits in far-flung places. Gareth’s weighty issue takes readers on a tour of his home country, as we report on the mighty Plas Dinam shoot in Powys and interview his Cardiff-based best friend Nick Williams OBE who is the chairman of GWCT Wales, plus we speak to third-generation river bailiff Chris Rees about uncovering a salmon poaching ring on the river Dee near the border. Further afield Simon K. Barr travels to Russia on a DIY fishing trip that left him catching monster salmon and dodging camo-clad poachers then we follow him to Uganda where he hunts in the footsteps of Kamamojo Bell using a replica Rigby with open sights.
